You can find your music files under the Library tab where it is organized on the basis of Albums, Artists, Liked songs, Playlists, and Downloads (only for YouTube Premium users). It should grace your library with some rare gems, or certain special versions, that may not be present on YouTube. Now, as Google’s plans to replace Google Play Music with YouTube Music, the latter is adopting a key feature from the Play Music app and that is the support for your locally stored music files.Īs expected, local music playback functionality will allow you to play music stored on their smartphones’ internal storage or SD card via YouTube Music. This, aside from Google’s AI prowess to search music based on loose descriptions, gives YouTube Music an edge over typical music streaming apps which only let you listen to only official versions of the songs. While this may sound a bit oppressive, subscribing to a streaming service is a convenient way to access music just about anywhere, and in most cases are a better alternative to maintaining a vast physical music library.YouTube Music leverages YouTube’s gargantuan library of official music releases along with covers, renditions, mixes, and everything related to music. For instance, Emusic only allows you to download a song once per purchase.

While there are services like Amazon Music and Emusic that allow you to download albums a-la-carte, there are still a variety of restrictions on how it can be distributed. In Library->Songs I have to do that one by one and it's painful (I have roughly 1k songs) I saw that you can download entire playlist, but app (and website) doesn't allow me to add all songs from my library to the playlist. Something to bear in mind is that while you can download and cache songs on your computer or mobile device, you technically won't own any of the music you download. Thankfully music streaming services, for better or worse, have managed to fill that gap, putting a virtually limitless supply of music at your fingertips.

And unless you've managed to keep your iPod from giving up the ghost, you probably aren't exactly swimming in MP3s either. Unless you're a vinyl connoisseur, odds are your physical music collection is pretty sparse.
